Who we are

Since its inception in 1998, SafeWise has been a true multi-agency partnership involving the local authorities, emergency services, local businesses and other voluntary organisations.

Support from the local business community (both financial and in-kind) is essential in enabling SafeWise to flourish. We are particularly grateful to our sponsors for the enormous support they give us and for helping us to ensure that as many people as possible are able to benefit from a visit to the centre.

What we do

Accidents are the leading form of death and injury to children. The cost of one accidental death is £1.6million … for the families involved the loss is immeasurable. The charity’s aim is to reduce the number of children killed and injured in preventable accidents in the home, at play and on the roads. Streetwise is an indoor life-sized safety village built inside a warehouse on the outskirts of Bournemouth and Poole. Town and country ‘bricks and mortar’ scenes from everyday life – including a high street with a pedestrian crossing, two storey house, park, beach, full size train and railway station and its own police station – provide an experience which is truly memorable. The village scenarios and volunteer safety guides help children learn how to spot the potential for danger and how to take responsibility for their actions, learning how safer choices can, quite literally, make the difference between life and death.

Why we need you

The charity is in its 14th year of operation and is a partner of Dorset Road Safe. There are 4 paid full time and 2 part time staff and around 60 volunteers – several of whom have received 10 year volunteering recognition awards.
The number of volunteers naturally ebbs and flows meaning we are always in need of new volunteers who are available for a couple of hours during the school day in term time to help deliver the Safety Tours.Grants, donations, sponsorship, hire of facilities and provision of services such as fire and first aid training and the sale of crime prevention products all knit together to cover the annual running costs of £250,000. Every £20 raised covers the cost for one child to visit the safety centre.

1. SELECT A CHARITY

A list of charities that we are partnered with are here for you to select. Some of the charities that we work with have fundraising targets and others are self-funded by yourself, each charity we work with will state if they will contribute to some of your jump cost or if you need to self-fund your own place.

2. BOOK YOUR SKYDIVE

You can book individually or as a group with just a £50 deposit per person on any operational day. Some of the charities we work with have reserved spaces on pre-selected days that you are more than welcome to join.

3. START FUNDRAISING

OK you’re all set – This is now the time to start fundraising for your selected charity, we recommend to set up an online fundraising page as all funds you raise will automatically go to the charity of your choice. Please remember you are unable to use any money raised to pay for your skydive and if you have a target set by the charity you have to hit this 3 weeks before the date of your jump to ensure these funds are online for the charity to see!

Charity not listed? Not a problem...

If your charity is not listed you can still book an independent charity skydive.
