Skydiving may seem like a male dominated sport to many, however here at GoSkydive we’re all for closing the gender gap! We’re extremely lucky here to have a fantastic group of females as part of the GoSkydive team (You may even recognise some of them from visiting the dropzone). That's why we're celebrating International Women's Day.
Whether that be our Customer Experience Team Leader – Gaby to our apprentices Rachel and Joelle. Not forgetting our only female Tandem Instructor – Holly! Even behind the scenes you’ll find our Sales Team Leader – Ellie; our Accounts team – Debbie and Di and even our Charity Account Manager – Emily!
Female tandem skydive instructors in the UK are rare and we’re very lucky to have Holly! Her love for the sport came when a friend introduced her to skydiving whilst at university, where Holly was studying sociology. After completing her degree, she chose a career working as a freefall photographer where she’s jumped at various dropzones including Miami! She qualified as a tandem instructor with GoSkydive and now has over 3500 jumps! Holly is now one of the most popular instructors at GoSkydive and is joined by the brilliant jump staff, who between them have over 30,000 jumps!
“It really is an honour to share the special experience of tandem skydiving with someone – especially when it is their first time, and often will be their only time doing one" said Holly. "It’s brilliant that I can call it my profession.”
Gordon Blamire, the founder and managing director for GoSkydive, added: “Being a tandem skydive instructor is such a fulfilling job — you get to give people unforgettable memories while doing what you love on a daily basis.”
GoSkydive offers an award winning – first of its kind – apprenticeship programme. This allows candidates the opportunity to train and qualify in the adrenaline-filled industry. During a two-year programme apprentices can fully qualify as freefall video and still photographers. They'll then go on to become fully qualified tandem skydive instructors. Having both Rachel and Joelle on the programme really is an asset and means the future for female tandem instructors at GoSkydive looks bright and hopefully encourages more to join in the future.
Having such a talented group of women working across the business is a credit to GoSkydive.
